Not to mention all the effort and extra tugging and pulling on the lashes to remove the mascara. Most people are not great at thoroughly removing their mascara. In that case, you are running around with a super drying film of chemicals on your lashes 24 hours a day. This results in weekend lashes that are prone to breakage, and over shedding.

Who can have Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with active breakout and men with heavy facial hair. If you have active acne there are other treatments available that would be more beneficial, and it is necessary to wait until breakouts are healed before trying this treatment. This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the use of chemicals.

What should I expect during my service?

Exfoliation in the form of dermaplaning followed by restorative treatment and finished with skin care suited to your unique skin.

What should I expect after my service?

You'll immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. While the main objective of this treatment is exfoliation, the immediate removal of peach fuzz is an added benefit which renders the skin exceptionally smooth and soft. Skin care products are better able to penetrate the skin following a dermaplaning service which allows them to work more efficiently. Your cosmetics will also go on smoother. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may look pink, so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.

Will my hair grow back thicker and darker?

No, dermaplaning will not alter your natural hair growth. As we remove the vellus hair we are cutting it at the thickest part of the hair follicle so it may appear thicker or darker for a brief period of time. However, this perceived difference is cosmetic and most clients do not notice.

Ultrasonic

What does an Ultrasonic facial do?

It gently removes cellular buildup using non-abrasive ultrasonic vibration and microexfoliation. It extracts imperfections and reduces the appearance of enlarged pores. It accelerates absorption of serums and other skincare treatments. This treatment benefits all skin types.

How do Ultrasonic waves work?

The Ultrasonic Spatula provides 28,000 ultrasonic vibrations per second to gently cleanse, tone, and stimulate the skin while accelerating the absorption of skincare treatments. These low frequency ultrasonic waves create cavitation, which is the sudden formation and collapse of bubbles in a liquid. The impact of micro-bubbles collapsing on the skin surface creates micro-jets that increase the permeability of cell walls, transporting molecules through the stratum corneum. Low frequency ultrasound treatments have immediate two-fold benefits: 1) to deeply cleanse by softening pores, pushing out impurities and cellular debris, and 2) to enhance the delivery of appropriately formulated, topical skincare treatments by propelling products more effectively to the targeted area.

Contraindications to having an Ultrasonic facial:

  • Can not use on people with a pacemaker or electrical implant
  • Avoid using on people with heart conditions
  • Do not use on pregnant women

Peels

How do I know which chemical peel treatment is right for me?

Your skin care practitioner is trained on each of the PCA Professional products. This training will allow us to not only choose a treatment designed for your skin type, but customize a treatment, addressing your personal skin care needs.

How long does it take for the swelling to go down?

It typically takes no more than three days, but the final balance of the product may take up to two weeks

How much discomfort should be expected when having a peel?

The level of discomfort experienced depends on the treatment. Most PCA professional chemical peels are gentle and create little burning or stinging sensation in the skin. Dramatic wrinkling, sun damage or acne scars may require a deeper peel, which may cause moderate stinging for a few minutes. More dramatic results can be expected from a deeper peel, however deep peels are not always necessary depending on desired needs and results. PCA Skins philosophy of taking a low-dose approach means our superficial chemical peels create minimal discomfort and produce beautiful and immediate results for most patients.

Can people who are frequently in the sun receive peels?

It is important you are compliant with using appropriate sunscreen protection every day. Sunbathing should be avoided directly following a treatment and while the skin is peeling. If you are getting peels to lighten the skin, it is imperative to avoid unnecessary sun exposure to reduce any chance of further hyperpigmentation.

Which peels may be used on someone who exercises frequently?

Someone who is active may have any peel, but all peel patients must wait 48 hours after a treatment to exercise.

Will a chemical peel make thin skin even thinner?

Dry skin is partially the result of dead cell buildup, which actually hinders natural exfoliation as well as the absorption and penetration of vitamins and nutrients. Having a PCA Professional chemical peel will remove surface buildup, hydrate the skin and give it a plumper, fuller appearance. The use of topical vitamin C and peptide products in a treatment, as well as in your daily care regimen will help build collagen in the skin, thus making it stronger and more durable.

What to expect after your PCA chemical peel

It is common and expected that your skin will be red, dry, possibly itchy and/or irritated. Please notify our office if you have any adverse reactions such as a rash, swelling, burning or blistering. You may experience varying degrees of flaking and/or peeling depending on your skin type and skin condition at the time of your peel. Regardless of the degree of flaking and peeling, your skin is still sloughing off at an accelerated rate, which will result in an improvement of skin tone and texture, and diminishment of fine lines and pigmentation. Post Procedure products such as our post procedure kit are given at the time of treatment and expected to be used for 5 days. Apply a physical sunscreen containing Titanium and/or Zinc Oxide. Both provide adequate UVA and UVB protection.

7 days after your peel you may resume:
  • Retin-A, Renova, Differin, Tazorac
  • Any products containing retinol, alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) or beta-hydroxy acid (BHA), or benzoyl peroxide
  • Any exfoliating products

Celluma Light Therapy

What is low-level light therapy?

Celluma Biophotonic therapy is based on Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology and is the application of light energy to the body for therapeutic benefits. It promotes a natural photobiochemical reaction similar to the process of plant photosynthesis. The energy delivered by the LEDs has been shown to enhance cellular metabolism, accelerate the repair and replenishment of damaged skin cells, as well as stimulate the production of collagen - the foundation of healthy, smooth skin. Research has shown that LED light therapy may help smooth skin texture, improve skin firmness and resilience, increase lymphatic system activity, restore skin's natural cellular activity, and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and superficial hyperpigmentation. The treatment is for all skin types, and is non-ablative, non-invasive, painless, and requiresabsolutely no downtime. Patients or clients can return to their normal activity immediately after the treatment.

What is light therapy good for?

Based on extensive research, Celluma devices have been cleared by the FDA, and shown to manage:
  • Mild to moderate acne vulgaris
  • Superficial, benign vascular and pigment lesions
  • Periorbital wrinkles and rhytides
  • Sub-optimal local blood flow and circulation
  • Minor muscle and joint aches
  • Minor muscle and joint pain
  • Pain and stiffness associated with arthritis
  • Minor arthritis or muscle spasms
  • Minor chronic neck and shoulder pain of a musculoskeletal origin

Is light therapy safe?

LED devices are considered extremely low risk when used as intended. Celluma therapy is based on light emitting diode (LED) technology developed for NASA-manned space flight experiments. In comparison to lasers, the patented LED technology generates negligible amounts of heat and is not considered a significant risk device.

Does Light therapy hurt?

No. Celluma therapy is non-invasive and is painless when used as intended.

Does light therapy utilize UV light?

No. Celluma devices utilize a combination of blue, red, and infrared (not visible to the naked eye) light emitting diodes (LEDs) only.

Is there any Contraindications to light therapy?

Yes. If you present with any of the following
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Suffer from seizures or epilepsy.
  • Taking cortisone injections or any steroid injections.
  • Taking any photosensitive drugs.

Brazilian Waxing

What is a brazilian wax?

A Brazilian wax is the removal of all of the pubic hair, front and back, using wax. Some people opt to have a small strip left in the hair. Let the practitioner know what is best for you!

Will my hair grow back thicker after waxing?

No, waxing actually has the opposite effect. Hair that is removed at the roots grows in finer and softer over time.

How long or short should my hair be for waxing?

The hair should be at least 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch for best results. If you have coarse hair it should be closer to 1/2-inch for the first few waxes. Once the hair becomes finer it can be waxed at a shorter length. If your hair is longer, I recommend shaving the area and booking your waxing appointment for two to three weeks later. It may take up to three waxing treatments to achieve smooth skin due to the fact that hair grows in stages and all of your hair is never at the same stage. It is very important to AVOID shaving between waxing appointments, as this will interrupt the process and stimulate the hair growth again.

How often should I get my waxing treatment?

Every four weeks. Regular waxing is essential. The skin will be less sensitive if waxing is done every 4 weeks. Over time, with regular waxing, the hair follicle will have less and less of a grip on the hair to be pulled and the hairs will come out more easily. Another reason to wax frequently is that you will experience less hair growth over time.

Is there anything I should do before my waxing appointment?

Yes.
  • Refrain from taking a shower or bath immediately before the treatment. Soaking the hair will soften it, allowing it to break more easily and making waxing less effective.
  • Make sure the hair is the appropriate length for waxing. Make sure that the area(s) to be waxed are clean.
  • There are certain medications and products that should NOT be taken or used if you plan to have a waxing treatment soon. Topical exfoliants used on the area to be waxed such as Retin-A, Renova, and hydroquinone, oral acne medications such as Accutane, blood-thinning medications, and topical/oral cortisone make the skin more sensitive and increase the likelihood of irritation or other complications. Please check with your doctor if you are unsure whether you should be waxed while on or using a medication.

What should I expect after my first waxing treatment?

Hairless skin! Also, everyone's skin reacts differently to waxing treatments, but you can expect to have temporary redness and minor irritation for a day or two. Slight itchiness may be experienced as the hair grows out. Proper post-wax care will alleviate these symptoms quickly. If you're a bride or attending a special occasion, I recommend receiving waxing services a month before your special day to see how your skin reacts. If everything is fine, reschedule another wax a few days before. Remember everyone is different so don't base your experience on your friends. See for yourself what you should expect!

Will I get ingrown hairs?

It's possible. Waxing removes the entire hair, root and all, from the follicle. Your skin naturally hardens and thickens over the area that was waxed so it is important to keep that area gently exfoliated. Use a gentle scrub in that area about 2 days after waxing and continue to exfoliate 1 to 2 times a week thereafter. Remember, I said gentle! Try to wear loose-fitting clothes for a few days after to give your skin a chance to breathe and reduce moisture. The bikini, lip and underarms are where we tend to perspire the most. Perspiration and moisture cause bacteria to grow. Once that area has been waxed, the follicle is wide open to this bacteria creeping in. Try to avoid heavy exercise that will increase perspiration and chaffing for about 24-48 hours after waxing.

Can I Get A Brazilian Wax If I Am On Having My Period?

Yes of course. You will be more sensitive, pop an ibuprofen 20 minutes before. If you do decide to wax during your menstrual cycle, please arrive to your appointment squeaky clean with a new tampon.

How can I prevent ingrown hairs?

  • use of exfoliating products (Alpha-Hydroxy Acid (AHA) products, loofahs, scrubs, etc.)
  • direct sun exposure and tanning beds
  • creams with fragrance or ingredients that may irritate
  • deodorant: it results in irritation and clogging of open follicles
  • wearing tight clothing: results in irritation and inflammation
  • excessive heat, such as that from hot tubs and saunas. Warm showers are okay.
  • exercise, if it may cause chaffing or sweating
  • touching the freshly waxed area: this encourages irritation. After 24-48 hours, regular exfoliation with a shower gel and loofah or exfoliating glove will help keep skin soft and prevent ingrown hairs. Apply an SPF 30 or greater sunscreen to any exposed treatment areas. Since waxing exfoliates the skin as well as removing hair, your skin will be more prone to sunburn in the days following your treatment.

Can I shave between waxing appointments?

No. Please do not shave between waxing appointments! It disrupts the hair growth cycle resulting in more hair at your next appointment.

Pellevé

How does it work?

The Pellevé system uses radiofrequency technology to gently warm the skin deep beneath the surface, which over time, stimulates the body's natural production of new collagen. 30, 60, 90 days after treatment your body is still working to naturally grow new collagen. Because Pellevé triggers your body's natural reaction to rebuild collagen weeks after the procedure, a series of treatments will give you optimal results!

Is Pellevé right for me?

Pellevé is ideal for men and women with all skin phototypes. Unlike most laser treatments, Pellevé is gentle on the skin and is safe to use all year round, regardless of tan skin.

Please discuss with your provider to determine if Pellevé is right for you.

What can I expect?

Pellevé is a comfortable, safe procedure that doesn't have any downtime. Patients have reported that it feels similar to a relaxing hot stone massage. After the procedure you might have slight redness, which is caused by your skin's elevated temperatures during treatment and will subside soon afterwards. You will be able to return to your normal day-to-day activities immediately after the procedure.

How long does the treatment take?

Treating the entire face takes anywhere from 45-60 min. If you would like a specific area treated (e.g., the delicate areas around your eyes, forehead, or smile lines) your procedure could be completed in as little as 30 minutes! Because the collagen rebuilding process continues to work days, weeks, even months after your treatment, a series of treatments are required for the best results.

How many treatments are recommended?

3 - 5 treatments are recommended about 4 weeks apart to boost the collagen rebuilding process. For optimal results, work with your provider to develop a treatment plan designed specifically for you.
